As a minister, author, executive producer, speaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, she has certainly put her bachelor’s degree in journalism from James Madison University to great use. Acknowledged as the first African American woman to win the Miss Virginia USA title and, soon after placing as first runner-up in the 1994 Miss USA Pageant, Pat has mastered the art of poise under pressure. She is the co-founder of Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities, as well as founder and CEO of Pat Smith Enterprises and Treasure You. The concept for her nonprofit organization, Treasure You was fashioned to inspire women to pursue their second chance in life despite difficult circumstances and setbacks. She has also launched an online clothing boutique, PS by Pat Smith, to unite faith, fashion, and forward thinking. A portion of the proceeds support the emergency needs for women and girls from all walks of life.
As a multi-passionate individual, Pat has always had an interest in television. Early in her career, she had recurring roles and guest appearances on prime-time hits such as Beverly Hills 90210, Sunset Beach and The Wayans Brothers. She soon captivated audiences as her hosting career began in Los Angeles on Extra and Access Hollywood, and then extended to Dallas when she hosted “Treasure You” on Good Morning Texas. She also co-hosted the TV Talk Show “The Broadcast,” which aired daily in Dallas on KTXD-TV, and was a featured guest host on The Talk on CBS. Determined to expand her palette and start 2019 off with a bang, Pat became an Executive Producer and actress in the film, Canal Street.
Sparking the interest of various shows including the Dr. Phil Show, Steve Harvey Show, Access Hollywood, and Good Morning America, she has interviewed leaving audiences fascinated for that special sparkle she graciously adds to the industry. As the interest to get to know Pat Smith the woman grew, so did new opportunities. With the help of the dynamic Oprah Winfrey Network, Pat’s journey was chronicled and aired on The Smith family’s special, entitled “Mrs. And Mr. Smith” in March of 2016. This platform eventually inspired her to launch her first book, “Second
Chances,” which was published by Bethany House and released on May 17, 2017. Also recognized as a featured speaker, Pat makes it a priority to address various groups and demographics with her inspirational messages on platforms such as the Women of Faith Tour, The Potter’s House in Dallas, Lakewood Church in Houston and various corporate events.
