Cliff Harris, destined for the NFL Hall of Fame, is regarded as one of football's all-time greats, having established himself among the National Football League's elite performers following a stellar collegiate career. read the restCliff Harris, was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Cliff attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he earned a degree in math with a minor in physics. Though he signed as a free agent, was the only rookie to make the Dallas Cowboys starting line up the first game.
During his 10-year career, Cliff played in a record five Super Bowls, was named to six Pro Bowls, and was also named an NFL All-Pro for four successive seasons. In 2004, Cliff was inducted into the elite Dallas Cowboys “ Ring of Honor” .
Sports Illustrated named Cliff as their All Time “Dream Team Free Safety”. The NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee named Cliff the free safety on the All-Pro Team of the 1970’s and has been a finalist in the voting for the NFL Hall of Fame.
His kids enjoyed him as the free safety on a Madden NFL Video game. He has been inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame, Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and most recently into as the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
There is a national award named in Cliff’s honor, the Cliff Harris Award for the Small College Defensive Player of the Year Award. The award goes to the best player in DII, DIII, and NAIA. On February 11th, this year’s winner will be announced at the Little Rock Touchdown Club banquet.
In 2014, Ouachita Baptist University replaced their old stadium with the new Cliff Harris Stadium. The Tigers played and had the best record ever since 1897 with a conference winning, undefeated 11-0 record.
Cliff also has written two books. One with Charlie Waters, “Tales of the Dallas Cowboys” and the other which was re-released this year. “Captain Crash from Sideline to Goal Line”.
He is a principal in Energy Transfer Technologies, an environmentally friendly natural gas compression company that specializes in the maximization of energy operations.
